Awards Description

GeorgeHaborakAward for Professional Development 

This award is named in honor of the work of the late Dr. George Haborak, former Executive Vice President for Student Affairs. This award recognizes an individual who has gone above and beyond in their own personal professional development. This could include, but is not limited to, publications, holding a leadership position in a professional organization or association, grant writing, teaching, or research.   

Victor K. Wilson Service to Students Award 

This award is given to an individual who demonstrates a student-centered approach of advocacy and empowerment to provide exemplary service to College of Charleston students.  This award may also be given to someone who consistently inspires individuals or student organizations to go beyond normal expectations to accomplish goals, institute change, or make a difference. 

Dr. Jeri O. Cabot Award for Challenge and Support 

This award, presented annually at the Salute to Student Affairs Awards Program, will be presented to an employee in the Division of Student Affairs who exemplifies these qualities of long-time Dean of Students, Dr. Jeri O. Cabot.  The award will be presented to an employee who engages with students through programs and/or individual interactions which show deep respect for students, an ability to navigate difficult conversations, and a deep commitment to matching challenge with support needed for student learning and development.  This person will exemplify patience and problem solving. 

Unsung Hero

This award recognizes behind-the-scenes individuals who consistently and effectively perform their duties in a manner that enhances the work environment for others. They go above and beyond their job responsibilities to support the mission of their department and the Division, yet they seem to never openly seek recognition or credit.    

Commitment to Diversity, Equity, and Justice Award

This award recognizes an individual who has helped to cultivate an inclusive campus environment by celebrating, supporting, or enhancing diversity on campus and beyond. Their efforts directly uphold the College of Charleston’s initiatives to recruit, retain, and advance the experiences of underrepresented communities on campus. 

Outstanding Campus Collaboration

This award is given to an individual or department that has worked collaboratively with other departments on campus within or outside the Division. This individual or department is constantly finding new and innovative ways to work with others outside their department with the goals of providing students with quality service and fostering positive relationships on campus.   

Student Affairs Pillar Awards

Silver Pillar (0-3 years) 

This award recognizes an individual who has been a part of the Division of Student Affairs at the College of Charleston for less than three years. They have given exemplary service to the Division and to the students and have truly “hit the ground running,” making a positive impact on their department, the Division, and/or the College of Charleston community.   

Gold Pillar (3-6 years) 

This award is given to an individual who has been a part of the Division of Student Affairs at the College of Charleston for three to six years. They have exceeded the responsibilities of their position and excelled in service to the Division, the College, and/or the Student Affairs profession. 

Maroon Pillar (6+ years) 

This award recognizes an individual who has been a part of the Division of Student Affairs at the College for more than six years and who has consistently gone beyond expectations. This person has been a role model for other staff members and their department. The recipient of this award is dedicated to service, support, and collaboration. They set the tone for those around them and consistently exhibit strong leadership within and beyond the Division of Student Affairs and service to the Student Affairs profession through presentations, publications, and/or programming.
