SA-Talk-Event for Sept 29 Emotional Support and Service Animals

Thursday,  November 9, 2017 Book Discussion 10am - Noon.

  • "Uncompromising Activist: Richard Greener, First Black Graduate of Harvard College,”  by the author, Dr. Katherine Reynolds Chaddock.
  • (For those SALT members in the Division of Student Affairs, this  will take place during our November meeting.)

In addition to being the first black graduate of Harvard, Richard Greener was also the first black faculty member at the University of South Carolina. Author, Dr. Chaddock, was a long-time faculty member in the higher education program at the University of South Carolina and has “retired” to the Charleston area.

Dr. Chaddock has agreed to come to the College on Thursday,  November 9 to lead a book discussion with us. This discussion will be held that morning from 10 a.m. to Noon.  (For those SALT members in the Division of Student Affairs, this  will take place during our November meeting.)

I am writing to see who may be interested in reading the book and joining this discussion.  The Division of Student Affairs is happy to purchase the book for you provided you:

  • Read the book   (224 pages)
  • Prepare thoughts for the discussion
  • Attend the discussion with Dr. Chaddock on Thursday, November 9 from 10:00 a.m. to Noon.

If you are interested in joining us, please RSVP to Susan Hartman (hartmans@cofc.edu) by Friday, September 22 at 5:00 p.m.  Susan will order the books on Monday, September 25 so that you will have your book by early October.  Once we have our numbers, we will also share the room location for this discussion.  I am excited to share this opportunity with you and hope you will consider joining us.   I look forward to the conversation.

Sincerely,
Alicia

PS - you will also note below that Dr. Powers has reviewed her book!
