Center for Civic Engagement

Eat.  Sleep. Volunteer.

Whether you’re a College of Charleston student or member of our faculty and staff, the Center for Civic Engagement can work with you to serve the community!

The Center for Civic Engagement refers students to local nonprofit service opportunities that range from one-day events to ongoing opportunities to long-term programs. Our office also organizes the Alternative Break, service immersion experiences, and the Bonner Leader program. In addition to the variety of projects initiated each year based on current events, there are several annual events hosted by the Center for Civic Engagement.

How do we learn to have difficult conversations about complex issues?

What role does privilege and oppression play in our lives?

What do all of our diverse “selves” contribute to society?

Join the students of the Bonner Leader program and Multicultural Student Programs and Services as we welcome Kimberly Dark at 6 p.m. April 17 in the Alumni Center (EHHP).  Kimberly describe herself as a courteous chimera – she’s part performance artist, part raconteur, part teacher, sociologist, queer-positive, body-positive writer, mother and cultural creator.  She tours and teaches internationally.

Through her own brand of engaging performance art, Kimberly uses humor and storytelling to encourage audiences to think about difficult and complex subjects.  The performance will inspire you to laugh, think, and engage with your life and others more boldly and creatively.

As we work to support a positive peace on our campus, learning and dialogue will be integral to moving forward.  All people, levels of understanding, and opinions are welcome to this event.  The performance will begin at 6:30 p.m.; a reception will precede at 6 p.m.
